The Volland Foundation campus, based in the Flint Hills of Kansas, provides artist residencies, exhibitions, and performances, bringing arts programming and meaningful community support to a rural region. The Foundation has become a cultural anchor, fostering connection within the surrounding community while deepening awareness of the area’s unique and endangered landscape.

The Volland Gallery was the first project completed on the campus, transforming a historic masonry building originally constructed as a general store. Rather than reconstructing the original two story interior, the design preserves the full interior volume, creating an unexpected gallery space. A compact stack of kitchen, restrooms, and a loft is inserted within the building shell but pulled away from the masonry walls, allowing the historic structure to remain visually legible.
