The Trail Pavilion is a guest shelter along the North Forest Trail at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas. While the main Moshe Safdie–designed museum sits in the valley below, a sculpture trail winds through the hillside forest and required a remote facility to support visitors. Set among large‑scale contemporary artworks, the Trail Pavilion’s first impression is as a minimal, sculptural form. At night slotted windows and indirect lighting add to the effect. As visitors approach the southern façade, a sequence of three large openings reveal an entry.

Constructed from economical concrete block and cedar slats, the pavilion is finished in a black, durable, reflective coating which subtly mirrors the surrounding forest. Inside, selective white surfaces highlight functional elements such as sinks and toilets, while openings provide daylight without compromising privacy. Intended to visually blur between a building and an artwork, the pavilion provides functional facilities while remaining unobtrusive among nature and sculpture.
